Lauren + Nate tied the knot at the Proximity Hotel in Greensboro, NC on October 24, 2015. They made an unconventional decision to celebrate their ceremony in the round- encircled by friends and family, which made for a really beautiful, unique, and intimate ceremony.

What are some of your favorite things about your partner? How were these attributes expressed during or leading up to your wedding?
Lauren: One of Nate’s best qualities is his endless optimism. The cup is ALWAYS half full for Nate and he can find a positive in any situation. This was incredibly helpful to me during the wedding planning process. Anytime something wasn’t going as I had hoped and I was getting upset or frustrated, Nate was always there to make me see the bright side of the situation and to remind me not to take the process too seriously! Planning a wedding is supposed to be fun and exciting, not stressful and overwhelming.
Nate: One of the many things that I love about Lauren is how emphatic she is, both in our relationship and in navigating her relationships with friends and family. She always wants others around her to feel positive, appreciated, and supported, and goes above and beyond in caring for others. During the wedding planning process, her vision was to create a long weekend that would be a meaningful expression of our love for each other, but also a lot of fun for everyone attending. She definitely knocked it out of the park, and as a result we had a perfect wedding weekend that we’ll cherish for many years to come!
2. What was most important to you in planning your wedding?
One of the most important things to us in our wedding planning was finding ways to bring our two sides of family and friends together. We wanted everyone to mix and mingle and feel like they were also gaining new friends and family through our marriage. We tried to accomplish this by various things such as a scavenger hunt icebreaker challenge at the rehearsal dinner, lots of games and conversational activities through the weekend, and by having our guests sit in the round during the ceremony.
3. Are there any details or moments from your wedding that are particularly special to you? (E.g., you wore your momma’s dress, your partner unexpectedly serenaded you, there was a double rainbow all across the sky…).
There are two moments from our wedding day that really stick out in our minds as being very special and memorable. The first occurred at the beginning of our ceremony right after we both walked in and were surrounded by our closest friends and family. Our officiant, Rev G, asked us to look around at all of our guests, wave to them, and take in the moment before he began our ceremony. We will never forget the feeling of looking around that day and seeing the faces of all of our friends and family who had traveled from near and far to spend our wedding day with us. The second moment was when we danced with my grandmother to Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off at the reception. We lost Lauren’s grandmother suddenly and unexpectedly less than two weeks after our wedding. Our very last memories of her were her cutting loose on the dance floor and we are so grateful for those final happy memories with her.
4. Now that you’ve tied the knot (and survived!), what advice would you give to other folks planning their wedding?
Our best advice is to make sure that you are able to enjoy your day. It is not just about your guests having a good time, you need to make sure you are able to have fun too. This could mean different things to different people. For us, this meant not getting stressed out or worked up about the little things that don’t go as planned, because there will always be something that doesn’t go as planned. Additionally, hiring a day of coordinator (Coordinated Events) was one of the best decisions we made. The Coordinated Events team took care of all the details on the day and made everything run smoothly. We did not have to worry about a thing that day and if something went wrong, we still have not heard about it!
5. What is the first thing you want to do with the images? Wallpaper the hallway? Internet fame?
The first thing we want to do with the images from our wedding day is to print them and frame them for holiday gifts! We are getting them just in time!
6. What is next for you as a couple? Any big plans?
Currently, we are enjoying our first holiday season as husband and wife and enjoying the free time that comes once you are no longer wedding planning. However, in the new year, we plan to start the process of purchasing our first home!
Lauren + Nate, thanks for being such an easy-going, considerate couple! I loved the thoughtfulness you put into your wedding day and how inclusive of family and friends your celebration was. I also loved your rockin' moves on the dance floor (especially your grandmother's!). I hope you love your photos and cherish them for years to come. Enjoy!
