Michele + John tied the knot at River Landing in Wallace, NC on September 12, 2015. The drizzly skies certainly didn't dampen the joyful spirit of the day. From the couple's lighthearted laughter during the ceremony to guests' unbridled moves on the dance floor, John + Michele's celebration was filled with joie de vivre.

1. What are some of your favorite things about your partner? How were these attributes expressed during or leading up to your wedding?
Michele: John is so calming and could make me laugh during some of the stressful moments leading up to the wedding day. He was always offering to help me do whatever needed to be done.
John: Michele is very organized and calm under pressure. She took everything in stride and looked so beautiful doing it.
2. What was most important to you in planning your wedding?
Incorporating things that we loved in our day….the doxie cake topper, the North Carolina napkins. Creating a fun but romantic affair that everyone would be talking about months later!
Not having too many DIY projects for the big day, crafts aren’t my strong suit!
3. Are there any details or moments from your wedding that are particularly special to you? (E.g., you wore your momma’s dress, your partner unexpectedly serenaded you, there was a double rainbow all across the sky…).
Michele: I was worried about the rain that afternoon and it stopped just like everyone told me it would and we ended the evening with a gorgeous sunset. It was a great reminder to me that God was part of making our special day perfect.
Other great minutes are the rushed but few minutes I will never have again before I walked down the aisle with my mom and dad, and the first look. My dad telling me he hadn’t eaten all day right before we walked down the aisle and I yelled at him for it (not in a mean way!).
Dancing with my dad to "Michelle" by The Beatles. My Dad has called me ‘Michele, my belle’ ever since i was a baby and he used to sing that song to me growing up. It’s a special song to me and it was never a question of what song we would dance to on my wedding day! What you can’t tell is he is practically carrying me throughout the dance since he is quite the dancer and i have two left feet!
Dancing with my MOH Christie right before we all walked out to a silly song that she chose knowing it would always make me stop and bust into a dance no matter how stressed or nervous I was. It worked!
Seeing John’s smile when I came out of the doors and walk toward him, I don’t remember seeing anyone else as I walked through the aisle!
John: Having my Mammy at our wedding. She is in her nineties and traveled from Tennessee to be with us. And the golf cart exit! Doing hot laps around the parking lot!
4. Now that you’ve tied the knot (and survived!), what advice would you give to other folks planning their wedding?
Elope! Ha, kidding but we did have our minutes when we said it would have been easier and less costly, but we wouldn’t trade that day for anything...and the few days that led up to our wedding and the day after with our families still together. It was worth every bit of planning and expense!
So my advice is to not let the wedding get bigger than big (my favorite Sex in the City movie quote) and if it does, roll with it because you won’t regret it. Little details will go unnoticed so focus on what is important to both of you and it will be perfect.
Also to have so much fun at your reception, as you will see, we spent most of our time on the dance floor with everyone!!
5. What was the silliest moment of your wedding day? The sweetest?
Silliest (for both of us) was when my Matron of Honor was being the awesome MOH she was and put my veil back on after it blew off from the wind. I wasn’t expecting it and she got me good! And it made everyone laugh which relaxed us both!
And the silver sequin Michael Jackson glove! It made its first appearance at my cousin’s wedding and the best part was watching who ended up with it all night, it made its way across our guests!
The sweetest: John dancing with his grandma Mammy and my grandma Mary Ann, my dad’s toast, and a sweet little note John wrote to me that told me he couldn’t wait to marry me before I walked down the aisle.
John: The note Michele left me with UNC socks “in case he got cold feet," and when Michele’s dad handed me Michele’s arm/hand during the ceremony.
6. What is the first thing you want to do with the images? Wallpaper the hallway? Internet fame?
BOTH! I can’t wait to see pictures of our day everyday! We have a lot of family that came from out of state and can't wait to share the pictures!
7. What is next for you as a couple? Any big plans?
After a fantastic and relaxing week in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, we missed our sweet doxie Gloria so we are very excited about enjoying being newlyweds and spending time with Gloria in our home in Charlotte NC.
8. Anything else you'd like to add?
It was such a special day! Every detail fell into place and even if it didn’t, i didn’t notice because i was so blissfully happy. Having everyone you love from all stages of our life in the same room celebrating your happiness is the best feeling and we feel so incredibly blessed that everyone traveled to be a part of our day. Also- I loved my flowers!! Bella Floral by Theresa out did herself! And we had a fabulous photographer! :)
Michele + John, thank you so much for inviting me to document your day! It's always fun to have a reunion with fellow UNC Photojournalism grads, and meant a lot to be asked to be a part of your celebration. Thank you for being so easy-going (and organized!)- it made the photography process such a breeze. I hope you enjoy your pictures, and happy one-month anniversary!
