Lauren + Ryland tied the knot on September 20, 2014 at Ayr Mount in Hillsborough, NC. It felt like the first fall day in North Carolina- crisp with a wonderful quality of light thanks to the clouds disappearing for the first time in a week! Read Lauren's response to the Q&A below to learn more about their wedding and photography experience!
1. What was your favorite moment from the day?
It's a tie between Ryland's and my first dance and the moment my father and I rounded the corner to see all the guests and my husband-to-be standing as we walked down the aisle. I thought I would fall over, it was so moving.
2. What was most important to you in planning your wedding?
The help and support of friends and family.
3. What was the biggest challenge?
All the little details that needed to be dealt with the two weeks before the wedding. That was when we could have used a wedding planner the most, but we made it through, and everything was perfect. During the reception, the big challenge was saying hello to everyone.
4. What factors other than photos went into your decision on a wedding photographer? Why did you decide to pick me?
Courtney photographed our good friends Gali and Charles's wedding five years ago. Their wedding photos were beautiful, and their experience was very positive.
5. From booking to delivery of images and seeing the results, what in your mind made it the right choice for us to collaborate? Did anything surprise you?
Courtney is artistic and laid back like us, and she's also extremely professional and on the ball. I was initially surprised about the length of the photo questionnaire, but I learned that it was completely necessary (see #7). We were also extremely pleased with Courtney's intern Katy, who we met the day of the wedding. Katy was awesome as well.
6. What’s next for you as a couple?
We hope to plan a big trip out West for 2015 or 2016.
7. Anything else you'd like to add about your wedding or photography experience?
I would advise future brides and grooms to fill out the photography questionnaire very carefully. I didn't want to list too many portrait requests with friends, because I didn't want to be away from the party too long and I thought, "Oh, I'm sure a photo of me with x-friend-who-is-not-in-the-wedding-party-but-is-a-very-dear-friend will come about organically while we're standing together during the reception or something." That was foolishness. It will not come about organically in the whirlwind that is your reception. List all the photos you want in your questionnaire. It might seem like a lot, but it doesn't take up as much time as you might think, and it will be worth it in the long run.
Lauren and Ryland, thank you for being so easy to work with! I loved how your wedding reflected your passion for poetry and nature. I felt so peaceful and inspired by the setting you chose and can't wait to return to Ayr Mount with a good book one day to enjoy it even more. :) I hope you feel inspired when you look at these photos, and that you cherish them for years to come!
